How Jersey Thunder Offers Workouts in the Off-Season

#TheMost. We use this hashtag in most of our communications because we truly offer the most off-season training, and it is flexible to meet your schedule. Jersey Thunder offers nearly 50 fall and winter indoor workout sessions that are fully accessible to all players at no additional cost to our athletes. No other lacrosse club comes close to offering anything like this!

We offer workouts in the off-season because we know that multi-sport athletes require flexibility in their schedules during fall and winter. We also know that lacrosse is a sport that requires consistency in practice to excel. Our model of effective off-season training options at no additional cost is the perfect solution!

Competitive lacrosse players require strength, skills, and stamina to keep pace on the field. While professional players don’t deal with our students' everyday stressors- homework, family responsibilities, and more—we understand how important it is to always keep one foot in the game. Focus on growing yourself, both on and off the field, with our unique and valued workout clinics.

Our Skill and Development Clinics for Lacrosse

Our Skill and Development Clinics bring professional training to your athlete’s skill set. We focus on improving all areas of the game, including shooting, dodging, defending, footwork, game IQ, and technique building. We offer indoor training from September through February in multiple locations around Northern New Jersey.

These training sessions are in addition to your normal team practices that occur in the fall, winter, and summer. As we said, Thunder Lacrosse offers #TheMost in terms of player development and #TheMost value for your investment.

How We Workout at Jersey Thunder

While not every skill session is the same, typical workouts are created with the mindset of maximizing player reps, and it includes:

Goalie Session: Footwork and hand speed drills. Increasing reaction clock speed. Technique/IQ instruction. Mental sharpness. Shot strategy (vs step down, on the run, inside finishing, fakes, etc.) Simulating live gameplay to gain results. 

Faceoff Session: Hand speed and decisiveness. Offensive and defensive exits. Counter moves.  Wing strategies. Learn to grow your IQ at the X.

Offensive Player Session: Advanced techniques & IQ in individual skills including dodging (footwork, setup, strategy, stick protection, IQ), shooting (deception, accuracy, shot speed, step down, and inside finishing), team play (2-man games, ball movement, off-ball strategies), and transition. Offense will typically go against a live defense at the end of each session to master these techniques in a game-like environment.

Defensive Player Session:  Advanced techniques & IQ in individual skills, including on-ball defense (approach, footwork, hand/body position, checks), off-ball defense (showing/bogeys, skip lane protection, doubles), and team play (slide strategy and timing, team communication, recoveries). Defense will typically go against a live offense at the end of each session to master these techniques in a game-like environment.
